I’m in my thirties and I play guitar. I just got a 61 key electronic keyboard for the holidays. I need suggestions for good beginning piano books appropriate for my age. The book stores and Amazon have nothing. I guess that I need to go to a community college bookstore or something.

I have such a great music mind. I can think of such pretty tunes, but I can’t put them into piano notes. Help me?
spacolie’s answer wasn’t bad, but no software or paying stuff. I just want advice from you guys.
I already have musical experience. I play the piano. I just can’t write my own music.

I know basic piano – I can read very basic sheet music, and I can play by ear. I can get the melody to a song, play it with one hand, but how do figure out which notes I should be playing with the other hand to give it that complete, harmonizing sound? I took piano lessons years ago, so I can’t remember. I think it has something to do with chords though, right?

What books and software do you suggest to learn piano, reading sheet music, and music theory?

I’m trying to learn how to play the piano. I guess the first step is to figure out how to read sheet music. I was wondering if there was any software that will let me learn notes from the computer keyboard. Then I was hoping to get some books to learn how to actually play the piano, music theory, and also reading sheet music. Thanks.

I should also mention that I don’t have direct access to a store (I have no car, college campus) and was hoping for recommended titles I can order off Amazon or BN.

My eight year old daughter is going to begin taking piano lessons soon. While I would love to have a real piano for her to practice on, we just do not have room for one in our home. What is a good, fairly inexpensive keyboard for her to begin playing on? I know that Yamaha is a good brand and that I need to look for at least 61 keys that have touch sensitivity. Any advice?

Is there a website that has instructions, or whats a good book to buy? I am a beginner in all the aspects of the word. The only thing I really know is what each note is. Aka, whole note, half note, etc. But, as for reading and being able to play piano music, I have no skill.

I have a piano to practice on, so thats not a problem. I just need help learning how to play it. Any suggestions on where to start?
Well, I dont need motivation, I can do that pretty well. Everyone in the family that plays, aka, my dad, uncle, uncle, aunt…and I think Great Uncle, but he can’t do much now. But, they all play without reading notes. They hear a song and in about 20 minutes, they can play it on the piano. So, I don’t really have anyone who knows how to read music and whatnot.

When I sit down and play the piano, my fingers have been feeling stiff, and so is the rest of my body. At times, I hear my brain telling me to play this note and that, and in the end I get all confused and screw up the piece. Also, I can never finish a peice without making a mistake. I feel tense, and even stressed. Can anyone tell me why is this so? And how to I get into that relaxed state of mind?
